B & O RR Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

OReviewer: As there's been no cache to find for a long time or has had no owner response for at least 30 days, I'm archiving it to keep it from showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking other cache placements.

Please note that if geocaches are archived by a reviewer or Geocaching HQ for lack of maintenance, they are not eligible for unarchival.

Geocache Description:

Once part of the Paterson and Ramapo Railroad, dating back to 1848 (later Erie Railroad), these tracks are now used for passenger service by NJ Transit. Today nobody has a transportation monopoly like the powerful railroads of the past.

IMPORTANT: The nearby railroad tracks are active. The cache is a safe distance away, in the woods. DO NOT WALK ON THE RAILROAD TRACKS! Suggested parking is on Rose Avenue or Maple Street. There is a nice bike path that takes you to the general vicinity of the cache. Small container, with room only for a few small trade items, Geocoins, and small TBs. To be on the safe side, bring your own pen. This is the third in a series of theme caches. (After Reading RR and Short Line RR, and followed by Pennsylvania RR of course!) Please note if your coordinates differ from mine. Thank you. The cache is less than a mile south of the Ramsey Station. During the mid-nineteenth century the cash crop in local agriculture was strawberries, and four to eight railroad cars were loaded each night in season. In 1851, one million baskets of strawberries were shipped to New York City, mostly by way of this railroad line. Congratulations to Stayfloopy for FTF. And congratulations to Archerino for being the first to find all four Monopoly RR caches. Honorable mention to CHT2009, bk1086, and TheGulchTrackers, who have also logged all four.
