Taff Eternal View Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Big Ragnar: This cache has been disabled for some time and as the owner has not repaired/replaced it, I am archiving it.

The Geocache Maintenance guideline explains a CO's responsibility towards checking and maintaining the cache when problems are reported. Caches that have been archived for lack of maintenance will not be unarchived. This is explained in the Help Center.

If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Regards

Geocache Description:

This small cache is located on the banks of the River Taff between Western Avenue bridge and Blackweir. It is about 2 miles north west of Cardiff city centre.

To approach the cache, you could walk or cycle along the west bank of the River Taff. There is no really convenient parking, however, if you think "Every little helps", you could park, buy some sandwiches and walk to the cache in about 15 mins. Alternatively, if you checkout the bookmark on this page, you can see there are some other caches in the area. If you fancy a nice walk along the river, park as suggested for Llandaff Pictorial. You will be then able to notch up some extra cache finds.

On 20th February 2013 the cache container was replaced with a slightly larger container, small log sheet but no pencil. I would not recommend leaving any coins at this location.

If you have not been to the area before, have a look around the park. I should warn you however, it's about 2 miles long! Click for more on Bute Park.

During May 2008 a large area of Bute Park is being fenced off in preparation for the staging of the this year’s National Eisteddfod of Wales. This fencing will restrict access to the cache from the far side of Bute Park. However, the paths along the riverbank will remain open as will the bridge at Blackweir.

The cache overlooks the Pontcanna Riding School, which is one of the very few riding schools owned by a council. The school is run as a public facility just like any leisure centre. There is a seat near the cache to write your log and to admire the views. The field you look into belongs to the riding school and you may see lessons taking place in front of you. The whole park was gifted to Cardiff Council in 1947 by the Bute family. This family is responsible for most of the "look and feel" of Cardiff today. Part of the Bute's agreement was this land shall always be there for the public enjoyment. We think the view from this seat should never change - hence "Eternal Taff View". The house seen above is across the river from the cache and a little further downstream. The picture was taken from N51° 29.815 W003° 11.866.

Please leave the cache exactly as you found it. We live and work quite close to this cache. If you think the cache requires any maintenance, don't hesitate to log the request.
