Waterfalls are a major feature of the Ystradfellte region, and
Sgŵd Gwladus on the Afon Pyrddin is a treat, with its wide,
overhanging ledge and 12-metre drop. If you're feeling brave and
don't mind getting mildly moist, it is possible to cross the river
by traversing the ledge that runs behind the waterfall.
Above the falls, there is a "rocking stone", an erratic about
two metres cubed. Sadly, it no longer rocks, due to a party of
railway workers, who, in 1850, overturned the stone.
If you begin your walk at the Pont Melin-fach car park, you will
pass Sgŵd Uchaf Ddwli and Sgŵd Isaf Ddwli, the former
being particularly noteworthy, on your way to the cache.
NOTE: The paths in this area are notoriously
dangerous; lives have been lost! Please take care, especially in
wet weather, and always wear appropriate footwear. Kids should be
kept on a tight reign!
You will find a number printed on the inside front cover of the
log book. You will need to make a note of this number in order to
find the bonus cache.
