Geldwee Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Rukubi: Hallo,

Alle Naturschutzgebiete in Luxemburg findest du hier.

Viele Grüße
Rukubi

Geocache Description:

The above given coordinates are not the cache coordinates, but they bring you to the area which is very remarkable in the history of Luxembourg.

A Roman treasure

On 18th of August 1983 a famous Luxembourgian archeologist Pfarrer Georges Kayser was exploring the area and the Roman ruins with his volunteer helpers. Among them there was a young boy who was interested in researching the surroundings with his metall detector. Suddenly he found something very interesting which turned out to be a hidden treasure consisting of dozens of Roman coins. During the following days the place was systematically excavated and much more coins were found. Finally this over 1700 years old ancient Roman treasure consisted of 2772 coins.

Here is a part of the story as it was written in one of the local archeology journals:

Den Ausgriewer - Nummer 9 (1999)
Zeitung vun den D'Georges Kayser Altertumsfuerscher

A Geocaching treasure

The area still covers a lot of secrets and the archeologists continue excavation work every summer dreaming of finding more fabulous treasures. But they are not the only ones, because occasionally there are also some geocachers snooping near the place. Contrary to the archeologist those modern time treasure hunters have a slight clue where to start and how to continue. Luckily they don't need any metall detector, only a gps navigator and the solution to the following riddle.

The Check Point

At the given reference coordinates you'll find an information board. Count the letters of the title (including "-") and you'll get a number which is same as the sum A + B + C + D + E + F + G.

The Forest

Move quietly and you may see e.g. foxes, deers and badgers who live in this Forest. Do not jump over the barbed-wires which are there not only to protect the animals, but also to protect you!

All needed information is given, you are on your own now.
