This cache is located next to a small Oregon Trail Marker that was
placed by the State of Wyoming in 1914. There is a small turnout
next to the marker. Cache is a waterproof match container and is
log only. Please replace exactly as found. The farmer that owns the
pivot near the cache knows about its placement so if they are
working the field, pay no attention to them, though they will
probably be watching you.
This marker marks a trail that many died on as they made their way
West. 3.7 miles to the southwest of this marker along the trail is
an archaeological dig that is processing an area where a small
trading post was located. One of the farmers just to the west of
the dig pulled up a couple of old crates of guns when he was
farming years ago. These were possibly two crates of guns that had
been stolen from the Ft. Laramie Fort. I’m sure there are many many
objects just under the surface up and down the North Platte River
valley.
