Geocache Description:

The Picardy Stone is a Pictish Symbol Stone dating from the 6th or 7th Century AD.

It is believed to be a memorial pillar set up by local farmers and is still in its original position.

The hillfort of Dunnideer can be seen behind.

The Picardy Stone has various symbols on it...double disc and z-rod; a serpent and z-rod and the mirror. When it was excavated in the 19th Century, it was found that the stone was set in a cairn beneath which was a rectangular grave. (Information was taken from www.megalithic.co.uk)

The Picardy Stone is between Huntly and Inverurie off the B9002 and is also signposted from the centre of Insch. The road towards it is a beautiful avenue of trees.

There is parking for one car at the side of the road.

Cache is a small click lock container and is not beside the stone, but nearby. Could be vulnerable here, so please try to stash it well...thankyou.
