Geocache Description:

Salem Church Cemetery

The Salem Church and Cemetery are located in Majorsville on the PA side of the PA/WV border. The church and the cemetery date back to before the revolutionary war. The land for them was donated by the Richmond family. The Salem Church served its' faithful for over 150 years, but closed not long after its' 150 year anniversary.

Many early residents are buried in the hillside cemetery along with the Richmond, family members. The Alley, Dreamer, Fry, Harsh, Magers and other familiar names are seen among the headstones.

The old cemetery contains the graves Andrew Farley, John Richmond and Robert Wharton , who were Revolutionary War Soldiers of the Frontier Rangers 1777-1783. Also buried here are three Civil War soldiers, Eli Harris, David Magers and Ben Wallace. Men who preserved the safety and welfare of our early settlers, and braved the hardships to settle these rugged hills and valleys.
