Barry Spitz (Tamalpais Trails) writes that Bootjack is one
of Tam's finest waterfall hikes. It follows a cascading stream
along redwoods. After the rains, it comes into its own, although it
is beautiful any time of the year.
This cache is placed along a section of the trail where old
trail signs were used as steps. We saw steps informing us about
ranger stations, bootjack trail, and (or course) groups only. You
do not need to be in a group to find this cache.
Because it is placed along a redwood stream, the coordinates
likely will only get you close. Look at the steps to be sure you
are in the right area, and the cache location should be close by --
a short distance from the trail above you. It is hidden in typical
geocache fashion on the outer edge of things. Because this area is
popular with hikers who might otherwise wonder what you are doing,
I am posting a very descriptive hint.
My family hiked this trail using the two car approach to take us
down the mountain through Muir Woods. A good loop option would be
to continue to the Woods, take the Ben Johnson trail back up to the
Dipsea, not too far from Tree / Rock, and then loop back through
Pantoll, taking the Alpine Trail to Bootjack.
