New location - only one rock to turn over now and its easy
to find, please leave it moss side up - please note that the cache
still blends in well and isn't immediately obvious!! A spoiler pic
will be available to DNFs who can demonstrate (with a photo) that
they've actually been there. The previous spoiler pic no longer
applies.
You are looking for a smallish lock and seal type box filled
with the usual trinkets. The cache is located near to what I
presume were the stables for Top o' th' woods farm - looking at the
ruins it must have been a pretty impressive place in it's day. At
one time this farm was at the top of the woods; known as Hodgkinson
wood in those days - now it's in the middle. You can see the change
in planting along this path - on the downhill side it's mostly
classic deciduous 'English' types - on the uphill side its almost
exclusively Pines. These woods are full of old farm ruins - besides
this place there's Heatons, Marsdens, Liptrots, Leigh place ,
Heatherlea and others - I love these wooods I find something
different every time. See www.mario.lancashire.gov.uk historic maps
for more info. This area most have been teeming with activity at
one time - now sadly all gone. Bring your kids here I'm sure
they'll love exploring these woods - mine do!
PLEASE BE SURE TO LEAVE THE STONES AS YOU FIND THEM - MOSS
SIDE UP!! THE PLACE LOOKS MUCH BETTER LIKE THAT.
THANK--YOU.
