Geocache Description:

This old oak probably sheltered the pioneer settlers of Bee County as they traveled from their homes into town. And it's been a landmark for many years. Folks still use it for driving directions "Just go out this road until you get to the Big Oak and turn left." But recently it became threatened by TxDOT's plans to widen FM 673. TxDOT has the best of intentions. They want to widen and straighten the road so that careless folks who might run off of it have time to get back on before they run into somthing, like say a Big Oak Tree. But folks in Bee County love their trees, especially this tree. So protests were made and petitions were sent and appeals were made. As of this date, TxDOT has said that they will arrange things so that they can save the tree. But you know how plans can change when it becomes an issue of money vs trees. So the fate of the tree is still uncertain. It would be best to make haste to find this cache while the tree is still there.
