Geocache Description:

Container is on the 'smaller' side, and is/was stuffed FULL at time of placement.
Some climbing over trees, avoiding pools of water, and rocks included with cache seek free of charge.

Tremont back in the late 70's early 80's when I was living there, had some issues with the town pool. The trek to Echo Valley was a little too much on those 102 degree days, and after an older friend showed me the way to the swimming hole... we used to venture back this direction to a bend in the stream where the water ran real blue... and was just deep enough to kick back and relax. The canopy of pine trees also made it an enjoyable place to camp out at night, little campfire, couple weenies... and a lean-to made from an old army tent... ah... the perfect escape. (No, I doubt we were allowed to camp back there, and No... I highly doubt the Tremont Fire Co. would have been happy to know about the campfires).

As we grew older, the adventures back here became a little more... ummm shall we say adventurous? We'd often have our half of a six pack wrapped up in our towel as we strolled cross town on our way here for the evening. Many nights were spent back here, and we always cleaned up the place. It was a standing rule that if bigger kids were at the swimming hole, to not disturb them, and an even bigger rule was... never tell anyone about the secret swimming hole back here. But the rule that would get you in trouble was the most important of all... Never leave a mess or trash for a grown up to discover. Well I kept those secrets many years!

That's the reason this location is very sentimental to me. This little creek, and the mountain above it that stretches out threw middle creek was where I lived out my 'rites of passage' so to speak. From little boy at my grandmothers racing out middle creek on my go-kart... sidestepping the strip mines and racing like Mario Andretti, to finally being invited along to somewhere secret by the bigger kids.

I was kind of sad to see soda cans laying back here frozen in the mud (Cache was placed on a cold, pouring down rain, not warm enough to melt the snow day) This cache was placed with my cousin, and I'm sure over the upcoming summer I'll be back to this location to maybe cool off in the cold water. Plus I'll be back to re-stock the cache quite often. Will do a CITO on each of my runs.

Enjoy a little piece of my childhood memories... it's nothing super special to write home to the family about...
but sometimes it's those places that are the best places of all. (cue 'stand by me' movie theme song')
