Geocache Description:

Attached is an old document and part of a map that has been in our family for years. I don’t know where they came from or if they are authentic but they have remained a mystery to us through many generations. If they are authentic they could have been written by the real Captain Kidd?? All we know is that they are very old and fragile. Hopefully you can read the documents.

Some research shows that Captain William Kidd was a well known pirate and privateer who operated in the West Indies, Caribbean and along the New England States in the late 1690’s. It is legend that he hid treasure on Nova Scotia’s Oak Island, New York’s Gardiner’s Island and a few places in between. The only treasure of Capt Kidd that was ever found was the one on Gardiner’s Island. That was only a small portion of the wealth that he captured throughout his pirating career.

After just after a few short years of plunder, poor old Capt Kidd was arrested in 1699 and felt the noose in 1701. If the attached documents are authentic, Capt Kidd would have had no time to retrieve much of his hidden booty. It is said that most of his treasure is still out there somewhere.

After participating in Geocaching for a while I realized that Geocachers are a pretty clever bunch and maybe they can figure out the Mystery of Captain Kidd’s Pirate Map. If you are up for the challenge, based on the map, I think that you will need a copy of Capt Kidd’s map and a compass for your quest.

The coordinates listed above are only for the parking lot at Irishtown Park as it sounds that this could be a start point based on Capt Kidd’s log.
