Geocache Description:

This is one of four caches which takes you in a circular route visiting some of the fells in the Western Howgills. The Howgills take their name from the hamlet of Howgill which is where the suggested route starts.

The fells of the Howgills are undulating and smooth with steep sides and gentle domes and are often referred to as the ‘Sleeping Elephants’. There are few fences and walls and this gives a great sense of freedom to wander amongst the elephants.
This also makes it difficult to navigate in bad weather, please make sure you are properly equipped for hill walking.

This cache is set below the cairn on White Fell.

Please make sure your replace the stones carefully when looking for the cache – the lichens on top of the stones should be placed upmost, as you found them, to allow them to survive.

Look across on to Bush Howe and you can see the Horse of Busha. OK, you have to use your imagine but he is actually looking straight at you! He is on the side of Bush Howe at about 1800ft as the fell goes around on to White Fell Head. There is a sketch by AW (Wainwright) in his book Walks on the Howgill Fells.
If you look further round onto Long Rigg you can see wolves about to pounce or is this just the altitude that makes you see things that aren’t there!!! Make sure you view the photos in the gallery before you set off.
From here take the steep path down towards Castley and Babbling Brook cache.
