Great Crested Newts live and breed in the pond. They are very special amphibians being the largest and rarest of our 3 native Newts. Oswestry Borough Council have carried out works to the pond and surrounding area to protect and encourage the Newts enhancing their habitat to promote the colony. But remember that the water on the steep sides of the pond can be hazardous. Please ensure your family are careful when close to the waters edge if your trying to see them.
The cache is north of the pond of the protected Great Crested Newts which are very common around the Oswestry area. Please be careful of the Dog muck when going to find the cache! Parking can be found along Harlech Road or The Eastern Oswestry Community Centre. Harlech Road is still a newish Road and it doesn't show on the road maps or Sat Navs but you can easily get to it of Whittington Road, Furrows Ford Garage, which is just of the A5.
