This cache is within the OKEHAMPTON FIRING RANGE
Before you plan your visit you MUST check the DARTMOOR FIRING NOTICE
Do not attempt this cache if there is firing on the Okehampton Ranges.
Do not go past the Range Marker posts when the Range (Red) Flags are Flying.
I have placed this cache in a spot that myself and Buzz often stop at for lunch on our rambles. This spot is ideal for the Geocacher who would like to extend their walk on from Meldon Reservoir a bit further into the moor in the direction of Lints Tor(collecting caches along the way!). It is also a nice place for a break if you have decided to go over the top via High Willhayes – Dinger Tors via Lints Tors on your way back down to Meldon. The walk follows along the West Okement River and through the Black –a tor-Copse (National Nature Reserve). A lovely place to sit listening to the river flow past and watch the wild life.
The Cache is a 1litre Tupperware box with log book Pen & Pencil, The walk should only be attempted with the correct clothing and boots, as some boulders will be required to walk on which can be slippery when wet, in Winter the little water runs, can be quite boggy. Please also note that as you progress further into the Moor the weather can turn quite quickly. For this reason I have marked the terrain quite difficult.
(If you would like an alternative walk, you can get access to the site from Sourton. From the parking area walk up towards Sourton Tor, then heading East over to Shelstone Tor, You can then drop down to the West Okement River. Please note that you will have to cross the River to get to the Cache from this side)
