Geocache Description:

This is another "GO" Transit micro cache on the Georgetown Line. There is plenty of parking at the GO station and the International Centre. A tunnel joins the two locations.

The Village of Malton once the home of the famous Avro Arrow is now just another suburb in Mississauga. Dispite many changes it is still has strong ties to the aircraft industry.

While it bears little resemblance to the Malton of the past, homage to its heritage is paid in subtle ways. Street names referencing WWII, including Victory, McNaughton (Andrew McNaughton, commander of the Canadian Forces in the UK), Churchill and Lancaster (Avro Lancasters were built at Victory Aircraft from 1943 to 1945). A fighter jet memorial can be seen on Derry Road near Malton Arena and of course Pearson International Airport is located on it's southern border.

After World War II, Avro Canada took over the Victory Aircraft plant, and established Orenda Engines as its aircraft engine manufacturing division. After the cancellation of the Avro Arrow program in 1959, the plant was operated by de Havilland Canada, McDonnell Douglas Canada, and Boeing Canada before being demolished in 2005. The Orenda plant still stands but scars of the former aircraft plant can be seen on the south west corner Airport and Derry Roads.

The station is only used mornings and afternoons on weekdays, so naturally there will be plenty of muggles at those times.

Have fun, this is a micro cache so remember to bring your own pen or pencil.
