Geocache Description:

There is little parking opportunity at the site but there is plenty in the lay by on the A394 less than 0.5 miles away – please be careful crossing this sometimes busy road.

Due to the proximity to the farm opposite, please use stealth in recovering this cache.

This micro cache is situated near to Cornwall’s newest Wind Farm. The renewable energy department from Camborne School of Mines is carrying out a series of research projects on the wind cluster and installed sensors during the construction of the turbines so they can monitor the mechanical properties of the structures. They are also being given access to the data system, which gives information on the amount of energy being produced. These 2 turbines are predicted to produce 5,500 Megawatt hours of clean electricity a year, equivalent to the annual electricity use of 1,100 Cornish households. The electricity will go into Western Power's network via underground cabling. Allowing six months to repay the carbon debt involved in manufacturing the two turbines, the project will produce carbon-free electricity for the rest of its working life, expected to be at least 20 years. Not only that but (controversially!) we think they’re beautiful.
