The Cerney Wick Series is about to be expanded! The Crown at
Cerney Wick is the venue for a Cache Bash on Saturday 30th August
2008.
Cerney Wick is on the edge of The Cotswold Water Park. It is
surrounded by lakes (created from gravel extraction), the River
Thames, the old Thames & Severn Canal and the old disused
Midland & South Western Junction Railway. All of which are
popular attractions for many walkers, cyclists and sports
enthusiasts. There is a large car park (just as well as the lanes
are quite narrow and windy!). The landlords (Colin & Liz) have
said the pub will stay open throughout the day (It's actually open
from 09:00, but I won't be drinking that early!) It has a
restaurant and bar with a large garden (which is where we'll
hopefully reside through the day, weather permitting). Dogs are
welcome and can go in the bar, but not in the lounge / restaurant.
The bar is not too large, so if it rains it could get quite 'cosy'!
Directions to Cerney Wick are really easy, just hop off the A419
Swindon to Gloucester road at South Cerney / Latton. Cerney Wick is
signposted, but your GPS will guide you in.
I have a number of caches in the area, mainly part of the Cerney
Wick Series, and there are a number of other caches nearby too. On
the eve of the event though, I shall be releasing a number of new
caches for those cachers who want to make an early start! There
will also be further caches released on the day to coincide with
the event. These will have FTF prizes of inactivated Geocoins in
them. Details of these caches will be made available at the event.
There will also be a Competition with a limited number of prizes of
Geocaching goodies. Details of this challenge will be revealed at
the event.
Watch this page for further developments and updates as we
approach the day. Many thanks to The Crown for agreeing to let us
Geocachers descend on them for the day, and many thanks to Sandra
(Lydford Locators) who has been invaluable in encouraging and
supporting me in getting this event off the ground. As with other
events, it may be useful if you wear badges with your caching names
so others can identify you. Not compulsory though! Also, as a
precaution, if it's a nice day, you might want to bring blankets or
chairs to sit on outside, as there aren't that many benches,
although there is plenty of lawn.
This is my first event, which Mrs RoobyDoo and my daughter
(S00paGirl) plan to come along to aswell, to help out, so fingers
crossed it will all go well! S00paGirl has promised to bring along
her laptop with Internet connectivity too, so if you need to check
something out online, ask nicely!
Proceedings are expected to start at approximately 11:30am.
Please come along if you can, we would love to see you!
