Geocache Description:

St. Laurence Church Hawkhurst. I expect you will find this cache very easy a.k.a dont use the clue unless you have to!

St Laurence is one of two churches in Hawkhurst, but the only one in use. St Laurence Church is in the The Moor area of Hawkhurst which used to be a separate village. The other Church is All Saints which is in the shopping area of Hawkhurst but currently sits unused and boarded up.

The side facing the cache got blown apart by a doodlebug on 13-8-1944 and it was rebuilt. Also the lecturn is called polly!
It is believed that there has been a church on the site since 1100 maybe before, when Hawkhurst belonged to the Abbot of Wye, and then of Battle, given to him by William the Conquerer as part of his thank-offering after the Battle of Hastings.
