Kooloonbung Creek Nature Reserve just behind the Historic Cemetery is where you can walk through natural bushland on board walks and where you are bound to come across some wild life if you are there in the late afternoon.
This is the sleeping ground for the local fruit bats. As sunset approaches you can watch hundreds of bats take flight from Koolongbung Creek across the CBD and onto the rainforest in the hinterland where they feed.
It is an amazing sight to see and hear, however did you know that when fruit bats take off, they automatically urinate? We didn’t either, but take care in any case.
Satellite lock in this area is pretty weak so the hide is not very difficult. The cache is a 200 ml Sistema container and is placed just two steps off the west side of the board walk so as to preserve the delicate nature of the bush. Hope you enjoy.
