Fife Flyers - Stravithie Traditional Cache
Please note Use of geocaching.com services is subject to the terms and conditions

Part of the Fife Flyers series. Although Fife has no commercial airport the county has a long history with aviation, mainly military. Some of the airports and airfield in this series are still in use however the majority have now well disappeared with only remnants remaining of those days gone by in some cases you will just have to use your imagination. In all cases, airports and airfield were located on flat accessible land. Most of the caches in this series will be easy to get to and find.
I haven’t, as yet, been able to find out much information about this airfield. It was opened around 1930 and used as a relief airfield by the RAF. In 1941 it was known as RAF No26 SLG (Satellite Landing Ground), one of the relief airfields in the area for RAF Edzell. The airfield was derequisitioned on the 4th May 1945. Nothing remains of the airfield. From the cache site, the field to the north is where the airfield used to be. The cache is a 35mm film canister, please bring your own pen.
