Event Summary

The 2nd Annual Burns Park Cache Bash was held on April 26, 2008 at Pavilion #10 in Burns Park (North Little Rock, Ark.) from 11am-2pm.  Geocachers (young and older, new and experienced) from around the state enjoyed a picnic lunch, meeting fellow cachers, gathering and sharing information, tips and tricks, competing in contests, and good all-around fellowship. A physical cache is placed in honor of this event (GC1BM9Q - Burns Park Cache Bash Cache 2).

Contests

  • Cacher's Cache
    • This was a new activity/contest (not timed) this year.  Several participants were given special buttons with a "letter = number" combination.  Other participants were given a card with partial coordinates.  Participants were to mingle with and talk with the participants who had the buttons in order to find the rest of the coordinates to the cache.  Once the coordinates have been found, the participants set off to the find the cache container where they had to stamp their card and return it the event.  This card was entered into a drawing for the grand prize.
    • Number of team participating: 26
      Winner: Flirtin_with_Disaster
Winnings: Large ammo can with items from the event, Travel Bug dog tag (with activation code), a new geocoin (with activation code)
  • Cache Dash
    • 6 'caches' were placed throughout the park. Each team was given a Cache Dash Card listing the coordinates to each cache (in no particular order). They clocked out and entered the coordinates into their GPSr. When they arrived at those coordinates, they were to find the cache container and use the stamp inside to stamp their Cache Dash Card. Upon finding all six caches, they reported back to the pavilion and clocked in their Cache Dash Card.
    • Number of teams participating: 9
    • Fastest Time: 24 minutes
Winning Team: Ryant & Michelle / TKCachers
      Winnings: Fully stocked ammo can
  • Closest to the Coordinates
    • Participants were given numbered flags and coordinates. They entered the coordinates into their GPSr and went to find the location. They placed their flag in the spot they believed to be the location.
    • Number of cachers participating: 36
    • Closest Distance: 1 inches
      Winning Cacher: FlockofCondors
      GPS: Magellan
      Winnings: Fully stocked ammo can

Other Activities

  • Fuzzy Critter Cache Hunt
    • Many critters were placed near the event in a Pirate Chest. The little ones were each given coordinates to chest and shown how to use a GPSr to navigate to a Pirate's Chest and allowed to "rescue" one fuzzy critter.
  • Golfball Horseshoes
    • A game played with two three rung ladders and 6 set of 2 golf balls tied together (similar to a bola).
  • Door Prizes were given away
    • Prizes included, but not limited to: stuffed animals, bracelets, swag, etc.
    • A prize ("The complete Idiot's guide to Geocaching" - signed) was given to one of our newest cachers - StardustedHeart
