Geocache Description:

This cache can be a destination or a waypoint on a variety of circular walks.

In the village of Cranwell is St Andrews Church which dates back to the 10th century. The churchyard includes a Commonwealth War Graves Cemetery. The market cross at the road junction is from the 14th century.

A mile or so to the West of the village is the Royal Air Force College. RAF Cranwell was established in 1916 as a Royal Naval Air Service base. Sir Frank Whittle attended the college in the 1920s and in May 1941 the world’s first true jet engine flight took place. The southern paved runways were constructed in 1954 but the northern grass one is still used by light aircraft and gliders.

You can park at N53 02.326 W000 27.690 in The Willows at the start of the bridle path or approach from the north N53 03.116 W000 28.257 on the Brauncewell Road.

The area of the cache is popular with dog walkers and horse riders and there are clear views of aircraft landing or taking off or people approaching the cache.
