This cache is located in woods alongside the river Petteril. There are quite good paths although you may need your wellies if it has been raining! The path runs quite close to the river in places so keep a close eye on small children.
17/09/2020 - Cache moved slightly as original GZ very hard to reach. From M6 junction 42 take A6 towards Penrith. Follow for about 2km. Park in lay-by on left hand side (N54 50.347, W002 51.458). Take footpath slightly uphill on right hand side past Scalesceugh Hall. Alternatively, park in Wreay village near the telephone box (N54 49.989, W002 52.805). Don't drive down the lane as there is no parking. Follow footpath over railway through field on the right hand side. Wreay Woods follows the course of the River Petteril where a deep gorge has been cut through the land exposing the underlying red sandstone. Woodland is thought to have been present here since the middle ages although since that time it has been heavily modified by man. There is a sensory trail leaflet available for a longer walk through the woods, provided by the Cumbria Wildlife Trust. Cache is a small container containing butterfly swaps. Please try to keep to this theme if you swap anything. This cache has been moved as it was being regularly muggled. If you have already found the first cache, please feel free to try this one as well!
