At this site are two roadside signs and a memorial. Read about a captain in the local militia who was killed by Iroquois Indians in 1742. One of his sons, a colonel in the Army of the Revolution and a member of the Virginia legislature, lived in the nearby 200-year-old house. Another son became a surgeon. The family cemetery is also nearby.
