These cemetery grounds were a part of the original land donated by it's namesake, Tom Mathis. It was a part of the 3,000 acre enclosure for the town of Mathis. Many headstones are dated back to 1880's. We have relatives that were a part of the original township and played a role in the development of postal, local goverment, schools and worship facilities in its early beginnings. As with all locations such as this, please be respectful.
