Saint Nicholas Field - York Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Dalesman: This cache has been disabled for some time and as the owner has not repaired it I am archiving it.
Guidelines: "You are responsible for occasional visits to your cache to maintain proper working order, especially when someone reports a problem with the cache (missing, damaged, wet, etc.). You may temporarily disable your cache to let others know not to search for it until you have a chance to fix the problem. This feature is to allow you a reasonable amount of time - normally a few weeks - in which to check on your cache. If a cache is not being maintained, or has been temporarily disabled for an unreasonable length of time, we may archive the listing."
If you wish to email me please send your email via my profile (click on my name) and quote the cache name and number.

Many thanks,
Geocache Description:

This Geocache is placed within St Nicholas Fields (or St Nick's) a 24-acre City nature reserve, managed by a local community group. A great place for a walk, cycle and to have some fun.

Click to go to the Mega Scotland web site

The York Environment Centre is located on the South East corner of the Reserve and is open Mon-Fri 9am-5pm and Sat 10am-2pm. Between November and end of March it is open Mon-Fri 9am-4pm and Sat 10am-1pm. The reserve has 24 hour access but we would not recommend a night find.

The Environment Centre offers a wide range of information and services and is well worth a visit. More information and maps can be found through this link St Nicks

You can park a car here but this is a pretty green area…………………. So for those of you who cycle you can reach the reserve via Sustrans Route 66.

A good place to start looking for the cache is the Stone Circles (photographed)

This is a good family cache - lots of places for the younger cachers to have some fun. There is a dog free play ground and it the site is educational (don't tell the kids). See if you can spot the Turtle and the Alligator.

PLEASE NOTE: from the listed co-ordinates take 12 manly steps or about 16 or 17 Girly steps -(this was added to keep Gilly of gillymalcy happy)along the path running due West. There are three large stones, one lying flat, and two standing. The cache is behind the second standing stone in the Hawthorne Bush.
