Update March 2010: We are offering this cache/location and several others for adoption while we pare back a bit on our own maintenance load. Anyone adopting a Sagasu cache is free to demonstrate their own creative style and make any changes desired. Perhaps some new hides will be available in these spots for all.
Please consider moving a short ways away from the hide spot while signing the log to avoid sometimes frequent muggle traffic, or be prepared with a good story. Rehide with the obvious camo provided. 9/4/08 Update: Doing a maintenance check on this cache today following a series of DNFs, I found the cache container in good shape and in place where originally hidden, however the start-up contents, which included some nice new swag, geocaching containers, and coins, has dwindled over the summer to some cast-off junk and a McDonalds toy. I personally try to enhance good caches and TNLN in others. In line with the "trade even" principle of geocaching, I hope finders also follow suit with this cache and others, so fewer cache owners give up and switch to micros. "Down By The Riverside" is located in Kaukauna along the river trail in the Thousand Islands Nature Center. One of several new traditional kid-friendly caches being placed by Sagasu in response to recent comments about the abundance of puzzle caches in our area and the need to continue to have a balance of traditional and kid-friendly caches. Parking is available at the center for a very nice walk or snowshoe trek along the river to the cache. If you are in a hurry, or if you bring younger kids along, there is parking closer to the cache at the river overlook off Cty Tk Z to the east of the nature center main entrance. Difficulty is set at 2.0 for kids, and terrain is 2.0, on average, for adults. During winter the steps at steep areas of the trail are snow covered and slippery. Walking in the unpacked snow next to the trail makes for easier going en route to the cache. The cache container is a larger sized small container initially containing some hand warmers, a magnetic key holder, micro container, and some trade items for kids. There is a golden dollar coin for the first kid-to-find, and some new commemorative state quarters along with a log and pencil. With a little luck, you may spot eagles over the rapids that flow along this section of the river or at the eagle nest in the trees across the river near the Thilmany Mill. This is a scenic wooded location in all seasons. Enjoy! Congratulations to "In the knick of time" for the FTF on March 8!
