J. Harold Ennis
Preserve
This 33-acre preserve was a gift in 1965 from Sutherland Dows Sr.,
a prominent Cedar Rapids businessman and community leader.
The area is named after the late Dr. J. Harold Ennis, who was a
noted conservationist and diligent worker in the preservation of
the great outdoors.
He was a charter member of the Linn County Conservation Board from
its outset in 1958 until 1965, when, as Board President, he
arranged the gift of this land.
The preserve has been set aside for nature education.
No hunting or trapping is allowed in the area, but fishing is
permitted.
Any development at Ennis Preserve will be for the protection of the
flora and fauna, and to enhance the area for nature study.
There is a small parking area which provides an access point for
the trailhead at:
N 41° 53.950
W 91° 28.924
No restroom, drinking water or picnic facilities are
available at this site.
