Geocache Description:

The above co-ords are for some off road parking and a ideal place to walk to the bonus and the Cotswold stone quarries number two cache,the co-ords for this cache can be found in the logbooks of the two Cotswold stone quarries caches.

The Cotswolds is limestone country,part of a Jurassic belt which stretches across the country from Dorset to Yorkshire.This natural stone is responsible for the outstanding beauty of many Cotswold villages.

Stone has been quarried here for centuries and for a variety of uses,everything from small farm buildings to the magnificent wool churches.

Some limestone occurs in thin layers,making it easy to split into roof tiles,these slates are graded on most roofs,the largest tiles nearest the eaves and the smaller ones towards the ridge.In this way the character of a Cotswold building is formed-stone used for walls,floors and roof.

Although still an important part of local history,only a small ammount of stone is extracted from the several quarries still working in this area.
