Marlacoo Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

mcc42: Since I disabled this I performed a test - I have twice replaced the cache and not published doing so and both times it has grown feet and walked. This has convinced me that someone of ill intent is aware of it and doesn't want it there, so they are being granted their wish. May the fleas of a thousand camels infest the armpits of the thief, and my apologies to real cachers who have not found this previously.

Geocache Description:

MARLACOO LAKE can be found on the road between Tandragee and Armagh (A51).

There is a crannog on Marlacoo Lake near the village of Hamiltonsbawn, although it is now submerged. It was used by Hugh O'Neill to elude his English enemies in the 1590's. Crannogs were man-made islands constructed as a refuge against an enemy. They date from the New Stone Age (the Neolithic period or ) but were used for many centuries after as a means of defence or as a place to hide.

The co-ords for the carpark are N54 20.509 W 006 29.263.

THE CACHE is a small sized container, with log and pencil. There may be fishermen about and the area is often popular with muggles. There are families of swans on the lake and in the surrounding area picnic benches with BBQ stands. Please supervise children near the lake.

As we had a previous cache muggled in this area please use utmost discretion retrieving and replacing the cache. It is a popular spot in good weather and during the fishing season has plenty of muggles.
