When Noddy looked over the harbour Multi-Cache
Graculus: As there has been no response to my email to the owner (or to my previous log) I have no choice but to archive this cache. Changing a cache to a virtual and asking that finders email proof they were there is not allowed.
Virtual caches and webcam caches are no longer available as options for new listings on Geocaching.com
Co-ords are for the pay parking area at Hikers Cafe and toilets at N50 43.176 W001 46.231.
This is a multi cache, offering wonderful views from Hengistbury Head.
Due to severe damage of the surrounding plant life at the final co-ords, this has been changed to a virtual cache.
Take time to spot the Isle of Wight on a clear day. Enjoy the panoramic view of Christchurch Quay, Mudeford Sandbank and the Bournemouth beaches.
Once you're done, take the kids on the Noddy Train from Hikers Cafe to Mudeford Sandspit, and from there, catch the ferry across to Christchurch Quay in summer. Make a day of it with lunch at the Boathouse, and do a couple of other quick caches in Christchurch, finishing with a cream tea at The Clay Studio in Castle Street.
The area is rich in local history, dating back 12,500 years to the Old Stone Age. Hengistbury Head lay on the edge of the Solent River valley with the sea many kilometres distant beyond the chalk ridge stretching from the Needles to the Old Harry Rocks. It is one of only 25 sites from this period to be found in Britain.
More recently, Charles Rolls, the founder and co-partner of Rolls-Royce, died at Hengistbury Head on 17th July 1910, after crashing his Wright Flyer at a time when flying was still an adventure undertaken only by the very brave.
The cache is placed with the kind permission of the Hengistbury Head Senior Countryside Officer, who has requested the following:
"Please make it clear that leaving the footpaths to cross grassland/heathland, etc. is not permitted, i.e. the cache is close to a path and not near any cliffs or similar.”
Thanks to everyone at the Ranger's Office, Hengistbury Head, Bournemouth, for their co-operation in allowing this cache to be placed.
In order to claim this cache you need to download a picture of yourself and your GPSR showing the co-ords next to Victor Henri Ruddle. Then email this to me via my profile. Logs without the required photo and co-ords will be deleted.
Attributes
Dogs, recommended for kids, takes an hour, scenic view, available at all times, stealth required, parking available, sadly not wheelchair friendly due to the steps.
