Geocache Description:

Stanmer Church

Stanmer Church is situated in the village of Stanmer which is contained within the picturesque Stanmer Park.

The village and park have some interesting features and walks, and are well worth a visit.
See if you can find the Wellhouse and donkey-wheel.

The church, which has no particular dedication, was first mentioned in 1232 but was rebuilt in 1838 after it was destroyed by fire.

Many of the contents are of an earlier date, the two bells dating from 1791.

Due to vandalism the church is kept locked, which is a great pity.

Inside the building are several memorials to members of the Pelham family, who had a long association with the village and estate.

However a walk around the churchyards will reveal the final resting place of many of the family.

The 35 mm film canister is magnetic.

If any body would like to expand to this series please do, I would just ask that you could let Sadexploration know first so he can keep track of the Church numbers and names to avoid duplication
