Geocache Description:

The Linger Longer Lodge was a private social club located in a rock house on top of Shades Mountain on a triangle of land bordered by Shades Crest Road, Berry Road, and Grace Way. During Prohibition (in the 1920's) the club was known as a discreet location to enjoy a drink and games of chance on the sly. (i.e. illegal booze and gambling) In the 1930's the club was renamed the Blue Crystal and took on an even shadier reputation, one that was slightly ameliorated by the habit of Birmingham Barons owner Gus Jebeles of inviting friends there for the "largest steaks in town". Rumor had it that there was professional gambling in the basement playroom and possibly some counterfeiting operations. In 1968 the building, then a residence, was demolished because it lay precisely in the center of a 90-foot deep cut through Shades Mountain for the construction of I-65. The roads were reconfigured - Shades Crest Road was bisected, Berry Road was redirected, and Grace Way was eliminated. The cache is a magnetic keyholder (hint: it sticks to metal) hidden in a very predictable way at a cul de sac of one end of Shades Crest Road. Homes are on both sides so be discreet during your search and keep the searching to daylight hours only. The homeowners around the cul-de-sac are aware of the cache and won't be bothered by any searching but it is a residential area. Also bring your own pencil as it is a log only. The lovely building you can barely see through the brush on the other side of the interstate is where I work. _________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ **UPDATE** 3/7/24 - The cedar tree mentioned in the previous hint has been removed. This is now just a predictable GR cache.
