Greetings,

It has been a while since I first looked at this cache. I can't find any recent responses about maintaining this cache so for the time being it will be archived and removed from the active cache listings. We are no longer leaving caches stay disabled for extended periods of time.

Groundspeak and the geocaching community appreciate your contributions to geocaching and I hope to see this cache back in operation soon.

If you can get it back up and running in the next week or so contact me to get it re-listed. Otherwise plan to move it slightly and set up a new cache page.

[green]Most problems can be solved with good communication so reply back to the reviewer and we will do everything possible within the guidelines to get your cache published. It is best to give me as much information as possible instead of saying nothing at all. This will speed up the process and we can get your cache published. [/green]

Geocache Description:

Located on private property-PLEASE STAY TO THE LEFT DRIVEWAY! We do have permission of the landowners the Gibbs. It is a pretty easy walk from the car. Try to go before sundown though as it does get dark.

Fanning was a little community settled by an Irish emigrant named John Fanning around 1861. A few years later others settled in. The town had a depot, a post office, blacksmith shop, general store, and I've been told a school house. Some years later, the general store was moved to the other side of the railroad and a tavern was built. The community also had a cemetary, but this is located on different property. It is located along the Route 66 Highway, and the county road that you drive down was originally a through road to the "new" Interstate I-44.
While on your way to the cache, you can see where some of the old buildings were.
The cache also gets its name from the deer that have crossed here for many years, so you just might see one.
Many of Nature_hiker's family grew up here, so we have heard many stories of this community.
This cache is located on private property, so just make sure to stay to the left side of the road. We do have permission from them to place the cache here. The natives there are very friendly, they know about crazy geocachers!

We placed this cache with many goodies for everyone!
Roadrunner toy, Soccer binoculars, 2 clapper toys, carabinger key rings, photo book, coin holder, bunch of movie buttons, scribblet note pad, stickers, water proof container, flashlight-w/ batteries, fish toy, Ozark salt & Pepper steins, Antenna Ball, Cache in Trash Out container, and starting out with 2 Geocoins!

-Information on the History of Fanning was taken from CRAWFORD COUNTY AND CUBA MISSOURI, James Ira Breuer, 1972 p. 77-78

Congrats to our FTF cachers!
