Geocache Description:

This is New York City's entry into the World Wide Flash Mob Event III. Rain or shine..bring an umbrella if needed.

SATURDAY -- May 10th, 2008 -- 1:00 pm

This event is taking place all over the world today at the same time.

Are you ready to be a part of Geocaching history?!? Check it out at: (visit link)

The Basic Idea:
A "Flash Mob" Gathering of Geocachers. Only 15 minutes long! You MUST be present, sign and deposit a log sheet DURING this time to claim the event.

Since this is a world-wide event, what other place should it be than at a former World's Fair Site--Flushing Meadow Park. You've heard of MEGA-EVENTS? This is quite the opposite in a variety of ways. A flash mob is a large group of people who assemble suddenly in a public place, do something unusual for a brief period of time, then quickly disperse.

WWFM (World Wide Flash Mob Event): Dozens of events all around the world... Thousands of geocachers participating... Coordinated to happen on the same day to bring together geocachers for a fun and unique event... These events will last EXACTLY 15 minutes, not one second longer.

LOCAL RULES

Arrive in Flushing Meadow Park prior to the start time and have your signed "logsheet" ready to place in the event cache container. We will all meet at EXACTLY 1:00 pm (based on GPSr time) at the designated 'Ground Zero', and the event will close at exactly 1:15 pm! If you don't drop a log sheet in the container, you cannot log the event!!!!

If you arrive early, stay at least 150 feet away from Ground Zero .. Do NOT interact - Act like a typical New Yorker ... don't talk to anyone and mind your own business. Stay in your car, walk around, visit the zoo, ride your bike, play a round of cricket or just act nonchalant!!! Act like you don't know anyone else. At the precise moment, we will all gather at ground zero.

This is a difficulty '2' because you must place your signed login the cache container in the next 15 minutes or you
will not be able to post it as a 'find.' There will be a draw made after everyone has placed their names into the cache container for the privilege of getting the 'FTF' designation. There will also be an unactivated geocoin, and if anyone else out there wants to donate something for a similar draw, feel free to add something to the pot!

Oh, and a fast lunch fitting to the occasion will be provided!

A group photo will then be taken. Some WWFM's ask participants to wear something unusual..like yellow hats or wild Hawaiian shirts. This is not required but it makes the group shot even more memorable. If ou think we should all wear something unique, post it in your pre-event log. Tell your friends and help promote the event!

There may be several muggles nearby who will wonder "What did I just see? What just happened?" (That's part of the fun!) We will supply fliers to those who ask.

SCHEDULE:

At 12:59 pm, Tatanka will reach ground zero with the cache container and a travel-bug trading container and start the event. Everyone can then make their way to GZ.

1:00 pm - "Sign" the logbook. Use a pre-signed log or fill one out when you get there. Mingle. Trade travel bugs, coins and swag. Share stories. Brag. Take pictures. Make
arrangements to meet elsewhere, or to find the various caches in nearby areas.

1:05 pm - The event “banquet” will be served!

1:10 pm - Prize draw

1:11 pm - Assemble QUICKLY for a group photo.

1:14 pm - One minute warning is called "It is now 1:14!" Prepare to leave. But don't really look like you are preparing to leave.

1:15 pm EXACTLY - Wait for it ... then IMMEDIATELY LEAVE the area. Meet somewhere else if desired ... but at least 150 feet away. The event area will be evacuated without a trace. The event cache containers will be packed up. If you didn't get to it in time you can't log the event. Only those participants whose names appear on the log sheets may log this event.

If everything goes right we will have lots of people coming out of nowhere and gathering for 15 minutes, holding a geocaching event and then disappearing…This could be lots of fun and maybe even raise a few muggle eyebrows!
