This cache has been archived.

West Texas Reviewer: Cache Owner (CO) has not responded, so the cache is being archived to keep it from continually showing up in search lists, and to prevent it from blocking new cache placements. Please be advised this is not a guarantee that this geocache will be unarchived. Many factors will go into my decision. The most important of which is how you responded to geocachers who tried to communicate with you regarding the problem(s) with this geocache hide and how you communicated with me, the West Texas Reviewer.

Geocache Description:

Micro, log only, byop. Parking close by.

The mulch pile was 700 feet long, 250 feet wide, and 80 feet high (everything IS bigger in Texas). On Christmas morning 2006 this pile caught fire and burned. Over the next few months it continued to burn. Nearby residents suffered the effects of smoke polution. Students with respiratory problems had to be moved to other schools. Smoke during the day and red "glow" at night were a common sight.

At one point, fire fighting efforts were actually stopped as the Edwards Aquifer Authority and Texas Commission on Enviromental Quality (TCEQ) tried to figure out how to extinguish the fire while protecting the Edwards Aquifer, which supplies water for 1.7 million people.

Three months later, by March 28, 2007, the fire was finally out.

This cache is placed across the street from where this massive fire occured and burned for so long.
