SD Air and Space--Cracking the Sound Barrier Mystery Cache

This cache has been archived.

Christopher Pike: Unfortunately, this cache page has been archived due to the lack of a timely maintenance resolution, or no response to my previous note. If the owner would like to have it reinstated, please contact me through my profile or email address referencing the GC code and name of the cache within the next 30 days. Please note that un-archiving a cache page places it through the same review process as a newly proposed cache, using the cache placement guidelines and land manager policies currently in effect.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and look forward to seeing more of your caches up and running in the future.

Geocache Description:

Welcome to the South Dakota Air and Space Museum! FREE TO THE PUBLIC and open year-round. HOURS OF OPERATION: 8:30 to 4:30. Given coordinates are to parking, ALL WELCOME. Here you can tour many historical aircraft and vehicles used by the United States Air Force. Some great volunteers maintain the property. While there, enjoy the grounds, stroll around and look at the aircraft for your information needed to "Break the Sound Barrier--Code".

All aircraft are designated with a number. They are usually located on the tail. Hence, a tail number... These will help you on the way to get to the cache, WHICH IS NOT LOCATED ON THE PROPERTY of the museum.

First, find the following aircraft and record their tail numbers...

A.The "Lancer"

B."Legal Eagle II"

C.The "Mitchell"

D.The "Iroquois"

E.The "Canberra"

F.The "Sky Master".....

Once you have added all of the COMPLETE tail numbers, subtract from it 888439.

That number will be 5 digits.

The first 2 numbers will be a compass heading/direction.

The last 3 numbers will be a distance in feet to travel.

Basically:
A+B+C+D+E+F=___________ - 888439 = 5 digit number.

Once you have gotten this far, start on your way to the cache from the following coordinates:

N 44 07.974
W 103 04.359

Cache is a small container for small items and logbook. FTF will earn a SPECIAL COIN/PRIZE.

This cache is for all the mathematicians, physicists, designers, slide-rule operators, and craftsman whom made these awesome machines fly. Their work was not easy and neither is breaking the code... ENJOY!!! Always willing to pass a hint or clue on if you get stumped.

CONGRATS NIGHTHAWK43 ON YOUR FIRST TO FIND!!!!
