Geocache Description:

Cache is located at the “gateway” to Port Madison which is, in 2008, a quiet residential neighborhood tucked into the north end of Bainbridge Island. It boasts an excellent harbor for sailboats and is very picturesque. Today it is hard to believe that, from 1858 to 1893, this same area was a bustling town featuring two saw mills, a fish oil refinery, shipyards on both sides of the harbor and a brass and iron foundry. The town was such a big deal that people from a little village across the water named Seattle would come by boat all the way across Puget Sound to shop in Port Madison. Port Madison served as Kitsap County’s first county seat from 1857 until 1893 when the last sawmill went under. The county’s first courthouse and jail were also built here.

The cache is located along what once was the Port Madison-Port Blakely Territorial Road which was established in 1865. Parking for one or two cars is available nearby at N47 41.874 W122 31.339 on an extremely wide shoulder.

Cache is a small lock’n’lock container. This should be a quick grab; absolutely NO BUSHWHACKING is required. Please do not trample the plantings.

The cache is currently filled with kid friendly items. To paraphrase Thelost1s: please be considerate to the next hunters! When it comes to the goodies inside the cache, TRADE EQUAL OR TRADE UP (this does not apply to coins or TBs). After all, the little ones love the treasures and get disappointed when the "treasure box" doesn't have any treasures in it. Some of us older "kiddies" like the treasures too! THANKS!

Bring your own pen, please.

CONGRATULATIONS TO JHOLLY ON BEING FTF!!!
