Geocache Description:

Another in the Guns of our Fathers series. This one located in Collinsville, CT.

This gun was suggested to me a few months ago. I apologize for not remembering who by, and for taking so long to place it.

Produced for use in WW I by the Watervliet Arsenal in 1915.
This 4.7 inch gun could deliver a 60lb projectile 7260 meters or 4.5 miles.
It could loft a 45lb shell 8750 meters or 5.5 miles.
Soldiers in the field learned to increase this range to about 10,000 meters, or well over 6 miles, by depressing the trail into a hole prepared for it.
