Geocache Description:

This cache is the first in a series celebrating the Red Lake Gold Rush. We hope to plant several more over the summer. Cache is a well-disguised PB jar containing a FTF prize and certificate.

In the early 1930s, during the height of the gold rush, a new and unique transportation system evolved in the North. The Patricia Transportation Company acquired a fleet of five tugs that would haul freight between Ear Falls and Red Lake. The freighting route stretched from the railhead at Hudson, across Lac Seul, through a system of portages. Sam's Portage is one of those historic portage sites.

Take some time to visit the Patricia, the only remaining tug. It has been restored and is housed at the Ear Falls beach, close to the portage she once served.
