Merrion’s Wood – Lower
Congratulations to Suebedz for first to find. Now you have the FTF Coin perhaps you would like to place your new cache in Merrion's Wood.
I have placed this cache to encourage more cachers to visit this pleasant wood,
This cache is located in Merrion's Wood, on the Walsall-Sandwell Border, and is very close to M6 Junction 7.
The wood was previously part of the estate belonging to the tragically neglected Great Barr Hall, whose ruined remains are not far away. The ruins are going to be restored. If you do the other cache Merrion’s Wood at the top of the woods and carry on across Chapel Lane in the next few years you will be able to go into the grounds of what used to be St Margaret’s Hospital this is now a new development called Nether Hall Park when it is finished there will be woodland walks and cycle paths. At the moment they are restoring a Gothic bridge very close to Great Barr Hall.
Parking is near one of the old lodges by the side of the A34 just north of the motorway junction at N52 33.764 W001 65.633. There is a matching lodge nearer to the hall at the other end of the path through the wood.
This cache is in the lower part of the wood and can be done as a cache & dash it won’t take long.
The wood is surprisingly peaceful despite the proximity of the M6 and A34 roads. The paths through the woods are mostly well-surfaced but some may get muddy after heavy rain. The wood is normally very quite except for the usual dog walking muggles. There are quite a few information boards placed in the woods describing the trees shrubs and wildlife in the woods. There are several sign posted tracks running through the woods. The wood also runs along the edge of Gt Barr Golf course.
The cache is a medium sized clip lock box inside a cammo bag with the usual goodies and a FTF Coin.
