Small snaplock container near to Pitty Beck Wetlands 1 & 2 and
can be combined into a short circular walk
A short circular walk around Pitty Beck Wetlands consisting of two
micros giving you the correct final 3 numbers of the latitude &
longitude for this final cache.
The wetlands were created in 2005 to provide a natural way of
cleansing the water flowing through the beck and as a wildlife
haven. It was also hoped that the beck could be incorporated into
the city centre regeneration plans and possible re-opening of the
Bradford Canal as at present the beck flows on into the centre of
Bradford mostly underground.
The reedbeds attract microbes which break down pollutants in the
water and act as a filter to trap solids so they can break down
biologically. The wetlands are monitored by Bradford Council and
the research results will be used in scientific projects across
Europe. The project was funded by the council, EU, & WREN.
The walk is not too onerous (about 2km) and suitable for children
but not buggies. A couple of fords across the beck may need to be
crossed and wellies or boots are recommended in wet conditions. It
is an area popular with dog walkers so some care may be needed
Parking is available at many points and the beck is accessible from
Thornton Road
