Geocache Description:

This cache is located in San Juan County Utah on Highway 163 and south of Bluff Utah. Very short walk to the cache over some slick rock in a pullout area. You do not have to go beyond the fence area.

This cache is a green painted can container and holds some SWAG along with log book, pencil sharpener and a pencil.

This monument was sponsered by the Hobbs Family in honor of George Hobbs, a Mormon pioneer, and was one of the first to arrive in the Bluff area.

"As a winter storm approached, four nearly starved scouts, George Hobbs, George Morrill, Lemuel Redd, Sr., and George Sevey, sought shelter for the night in this area on December 27, 1879. The scouts were exploring for a feasible route for the 250 Mormon (Hole-in-the-Rock) pioneers to follow from their encampments above the Colorado River gorge 100 miles west of here. George Hobbs: Night overtook us, we camped in this small canyon, this being our third day without food. I cut my name in the rock with the date I was there, not knowing that I would survive the journey." FYI: This rock where he cut his name into the rock has been removed by the Roads Dept.

In the Bluff area you will find some buildings being restored. I would invite everyone to visit these sites and learn a little history in the process.

As always, have fun in San Juan County and take plenty of water with you.
