It was bright, so bright. All I wanted was a cup of joe. That’s all I wanted. Why did they have to go and serve it in a red mug? Why, oh why? Then they asked did I want lemon in my coffee. Lemon doesn’t go in coffee. It goes in tea. After all this, I was wondering if I was on the right side of the tracks. I thought I was. I had followed Chris and Cindy here, but then again maybe I wasn’t. Was I in the middle of east Memphis? I couldn’t be, not with that smell of cinnamon. The flags man, the flags. Why were there seven of them? Why? I asked. Nobody knew. They were pink and they were blue and there was the same number of each colour. Why? I asked. Nobody knew. The colors man, the colors. I saw this geek there. I asked her had she seen the light? She said yeah, she had seen the light and it was gold. And orange. Then she asked me if I had ever been to John Gray’s house. I hadn’t and I told her so. She said I should go when the sky turned eggplant and tangerine and then I might have a chance encounter with a blue rhino. Eggplant and tangerine? Was she talking about colors or food? I asked her. She didn’t answer. Probably because she gone back north to work or something. Food sounded good and I was hungry so I walked on over to this phone booth to call and order a pizza. I was about to go in when Superman walked out. Yeah man! Superman! He had just changed. Made his transition if you will. I knew it was him because his cape was red. But then I saw it was lined with lavender and it wasn’t him. It wasn’t Superman. I was bummed. And hungry. Since there was a fake Superman in the phone booth I forgot about getting pizza. The Green brook market was close so I went in. They had bananas. I like bananas, almost as much as I like jellybeans. I like jellybeans. I mean I love jellybeans! They didn’t have no jellybeans so I had to get some bananas. It was okay though, because I like bananas. They were weird bananas because they were white not yellow. I turned to Peter Baskind, he owns a caboose, and asked him if that was weird. He said no worries. Just be glad they are brown not green. I said brown? Green? They aren’t either. They are white. Why is everybody crazy but me?
It's the colors man!
