Pignut Variation Cache Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

Lumberjack Tom: Yep, damage there is, and although the second stage cache container IS where it is supposed to be, it has been toppled and has none of the "ambience" that once made this a fun cache to do. On top of that, the first stage container is missing altogether once again. Time for this one to go on the shelf.

Geocache Description:

Two-part multi-cache with nearby parking. Both stages are micros constructed from parts of earlier, now-archived caches or their remnants. Please bring a pen to sign the log. Posted coords are for the first stage.

Pignut hickory, a genus “Carya” variation, is commonly found in the Ohio Basin and southern Appalachians. Like most hickories, its wood is hard and fine-grained and is especially valued for use in such items as tool handles and skis. In earlier days it was sought after for wagon wheels. The tree produces small, bitter nuts that were gathered as hog food in colonial times. Hence, its name. It is also called smoothbark hickory, swamp hickory and broom hickory.

Odd name for a tree, odd name for a cache. But if you think about it, both names make sense.
