Recently, I had to take one of our children to a doctor's appointment. While we were passing through the hallway to the office, I caught a whiff of something from long ago in my past.
My father was a doctor and occasionally I would accompany him on his rounds. One of my oldest olfactory memories is that of iodoform. Iodoform, CHI3 (the number is actually a subscript), was a hospital disinfectant used for many years. It's distinctively sweet odor was known as the "hospital smell" of that era. Iodoform was replaced by other more effective disinfectants. I doubt if it was iodoform that I smelled, but something sure jogged that memory.
The cache is a 35 mm film cannister with no room for a writing instrument, so bring your own.
