Nagyatád Earth CastleThe castle was built in the middle-age to look after crossing point of swampy country of Rinya it is a little river. In the course of Turkish invasion in 1600s the castle was ruined and you can find the remains of moats and mounds today.The neighbouring environs are very pleasant therefore the Somogy County Forestry constructed a modesty forest tourist centre here. There is an open-air fire-place and a shack in case it is raining.You can find a special rarity here, a giant beech-tree (in fact Siamese twins) it is the second one in Hungary according to its trunk circumference (N46° 16.216' E17°24.300' 140m).How to approach the ruins?1. Nagyatád town – Henész quarter (Honvéd Str.) – „White Chapel” (N46° 14,102’ E17° 22,549’ 130m) – you drive eastward and you can park at the border of built-up area (N46° 14.123’ E17° 22.828’ 130 m). You walk to North-east on the cart road to the fork (N46° 14.683’ E17° 24.372’ 130m).Then you go northward to the ruins. The walking is about 5 kms together from the parking point.2. Nagykorpád village – Nagykorpád cemetery as a parking place (N46° 16.055 E17° 26.963')– little bridge on Rinya brook (N46° 16.033' E17° 26.422'). Then you cross Rinya and you go westward 3 kms on the cart road close to Rinya .
