Recycling Center Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

shell1fish: With the recycling center closing its doors tomorrow due to future construction, it's time to let this cache go. It's been almost a decade since I hid it, and thanks again to all the visitors since!

Geocache Description:

Did you know that Caltech's Recycling Center is open to the public?

Items Accepted:
White paper, newspaper, cardboard, chipboard, mixed paper, colored paper, plastic (numbers 1-7; separated), aluminum, CRV glass, non-CRV glass, magazines, phone directories, and tin. (While the Center accepts CRV recyclables, you will not get any money)

Everything should be separated; the Center is just an unstaffed collection of labeled dumpsters. The Caltech Recycling Center does not accept personal electronic waste.

Hours of Operation:
Monday - Friday, 8:00 am to 6:00 pm
Saturday - Sunday, 10:00 am to 6:00 pm

The Recycling Center is accessible by entering the first parking lot south of Del Mar Boulevard from either Michigan or Wilson Avenue.

Parking:
There is plenty of free parking near GZ, but *where* depends on when you come. You can park inside the Recycling Center area when it is open. DO NOT park in the adjacent parking lot during business hours -- a valid paid parking permit is required to park in Caltech lots Monday – Friday, 7am to 5pm. So you can park anywhere you like early in the morning, after 5pm, and on weekends. If you happen to come between 7am and 8am on a weekday morning, the closest permitted free parking is to the west on Wilson Avenue. (Caltech owns Michigan Avenue south of Del Mar, and it is subject to the same weekday parking permit restrictions.)

Do not leave your car unattended in the Recycling Center. Street parking is your best bet if you would like to find other caches in the area during business hours, or you can purchase a daily Caltech parking permit at a machine 30 feet south of GZ.

Cache:
You are looking for a cylindrical container, about 2 inches tall. It is hidden from muggles and available 24/7. It would remain hidden even if there was no ivy, but this is not a lamp post hide. (The only things under the skirt are crickets! They jumped, I jumped... you don't need to jump.) The terrain is wheelchair accessible; check the hint to see if the cache itself will be accessible for you.

The hint is somewhat of a spoiler because I like smiley faces, so use it at your own risk.

Happy Recycling!

~ Congrats, k6ccc, for the FTF ~

As always with caching, watch where you put your hands...
