Geocache Description:

Bat Cave is the Nickname for an old gold mine near Lightning Creek. A steep climb of 120ft is required to get to GZ. The cache is not located in the old mine but about 20mt further along the track.
You may rip your clothing climbing up through the dense scrub. You should be reasonably fit to attempt this cache.

Lightning Creek is very popular camping spot, always busy during the main holiday periods. Just across the road, a hundred meters towards Mitta Mitta, is the start of this little known track. At the "START" waypoint you will see a small entry hole through the dense scrub located above the embankment on the road side. After climbing up the embankment, you'll have to get down really low to crawl through the entry hole, but that's the worst part of the track. After the entry hole it's a very steep walk/climb up to the mine shaft.

The mine shaft is large enough to walk upright all the way to the end, but you will need a torch, preferably a head lamp, to get to the end of the mine shaft where the bats live.

To find the cache, there is no need to enter the mine. Just walk along the ditch, which follows the contour of the hill, until you get to GZ. The is no need to climb up or down from the ditch.

The Ditch seen in front of the mine is actually a water race which was used to take water to the Pioneer mine in Mitta Mitta, over 20km away) for Sluicing Operations. (see cache GC1ABV0)

The cache is a 1lt Sistema clip lock container with some small swap items to keep the kids interested.
